The "Happy Roger" skull and crossbones flag: initially believed to be a symbol of Caribbean pirates, possibly originating from the Cilician pirates' symbolism of death, but there are also several other theories about its origin.

Other symbols: such as the black raven flag used by Danish pirates, the various warship and merchant ship flags of the Normans, and the scepter of Mercury and the owl of Athena used by Roman pirates, showcasing the diverse cultural backgrounds of different pirate groups.
